Mystical Bear in Fog
While on a backpacking trip in Alaska, my hiking partner spotted this grizzly appear out of the fog 50 yards behind me. I reached for the camera on my backpack clip and snapped a few shots of this soggy bear sky lined on the ridge as I slowly backed away to give him his space.
During this same time we were attempting to navigate the terrain in the heavy fog. Navigation was rather difficult but it suddenly dawned on me that where the bear came from must have been a passable route. We backtracked a ways to get around the raging creek and glacier that separated us from the path the bear was on. We found a safe place to cross the creek and made our way back to where we saw the bear and it was indeed the route we needed to take. It was as if this grizzly showed up to show us the way. Such an unforgettable moment to capture in Alaskas backcountry.
